Important Contributions at the National Level:

Prof. Pai has led the successful implementation of numerous national projects and mobilized significant national and international funding to support them. Some of them being:

1. Government of India’s PMSMA Program (since 2016)

Contributed to the launch and nationwide implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA), providing free antenatal care on the 9th of every month.
Over 60 million pregnant women examined under the program.
Dr. Pai and Team FOGSI were recognized with the “I Pledge for Nine Achievers Award” by the Government of India.

2. FOGSI Manyata Project: QC/QA & Upgrading of Nursing Homes (since 2017)

Contributed to the establishment and administration of the Manyata Program to improve quality of care in private maternity facilities.
Supported by MSD for Mothers, MacArthur Foundation, USAID & JHPIEGO.
Expanded to 3,200+ maternity homes; 25,000+ healthcare providers trained.
Recognized for its impact, the Manyata model is being promoted by AOFOG in Asia, namely Bangladesh and the Philippines.
Recently the success of Manyata Program was published by Ariadne Labs, Harvard in Global Health: Science and Practice (2022) and BMJ Public Health (2024).

3. Freedom from Anemia Campaign (since 2023)

Contributed to the award-winning Na Na Anemia campaign, including a Women’s Health Roadshow covering 39 cities, spread over 9,000kms, in 90 days.
This campaign reached millions of women through blood test to screen for Anemia, community based public educational forums, and continuing physical development programs for doctors.

4. FOGSI-UNICEF VISHESH Caesarean Project (since 2022)

Contributed to research and interventions optimizing Caesarean section practices in 50 centres across India. The data is being collected using Robson’s Criteria; The findings of this will be published in the future.

5. American Cancer Society–IAP – FOGSI HPV Vaccination Project (2023–2024)

Over 10,000+ gynecologists have undergone online CDP training in HPV Vaccination and Cancer Prevention in one year.
This landmark program has been possible with the grant from the American Cancer Society.

6. UNICEF – FOGSI – HPV Vaccination Scale-Up & Advocacy Project (2023–2025)

Contributed to HPV vaccine training and awareness for trainers and school children to increase vaccine acceptance and cervical cancer prevention.

If elected, he pledges to bring the same experience, leadership and resources to FIGO.

Vision for FIGO as President Elect

FIGO for All – Promote inclusivity by ensuring equal participation and representation of all 139 Member Societies.
Actively involve Presidents, members, and local committees from every country in FIGO’s forums and activities.
Strengthen the governance and administration of FIGO, making it structured, transparent, and fair to all Member Societies.

Secure new, sustainable funding & grants to support academic, social welfare, and global health projects. I will use my learning and experience of being a part of the Team that raised USD 40 million for the 10-year FOGSI Manyata Project, supported by MSD for Mothers, to achieve this goal

Ensure widespread dissemination and implementation of guidelines developed by FIGO’s 21 committees.
Organize focused regional meetings across FIGO’s five regions to strengthen global outreach.
Expand training programs for colleagues worldwide to enhance patient care and outcomes.

Utilize personal leadership experience to scale up successful initiatives to the global stage. These being Quality upgradation of hospitals, Freedom from Anemia, cervical cancer prevention & optimizing C-section rates.

Address critical challenges: climate change, women’s rights, gender equity, access to care, and physician burnout.

Implement FIGO’s mission and vision at the ground level to serve women and children across the world, while continually striving to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
